Effect of fat intake on health

How does intake of unsaturated, saturated, and trans fat affect cholesterol levels and overall health?

Your intake of dietary cholesterol increases blood cholesterol, but not nearly as much as your intake of saturated fat and trans fat. Both saturated fat and dietary cholesterol are found in animal foods such as meats, poultry and dairy products.
Saturated fats increase LDL cholesterol
Unsaturated fats increase cholesterol
Trans Fat increases LDL and decreases HDL

Avoiding saturated fats and trans fats will help to lower total cholesterol as well as the LDL levels. However, consider the opposite: Eating a diet containing many saturated and/or trans fats will also raise total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.
Trans fat causes an exponential rise in heart attacks because they stick to the blood vessels, as a result hindering healthy blood flow. A diet high in saturated fats is the main cause of high-blood cholesterol levels, but an overall high-cholesterol diet can also raise cholesterol levels (Everydayhealth, n.d.).
Again, as mentioned previously, you want your total cholesterol to be relatively low.
